Fuwei Wheel Magnesium Alloy Base Achieves Large-Scale Mass Production Capacity, Securing Multiple Orders in Business Cooperation
The construction of Fuwei Wheel's magnesium alloy base recently achieved a critical milestone. The four core modules, namely the 850T injection island unit, CNC unit, deburring unit, and cleaning unit, have been fully installed and individually commissioned, and successfully completed the automated process commissioning with parts on August 6. This move marks that Fuwei Wheel's magnesium alloy factory has officially gained the mass production capacity for bracket-type products, laying a hardware foundation for the sustainable development of the base. Under the strategic guidance of the superior company's leadership, the project team, in combination with the current production reality and the capacity planning objectives for Phases II and III, has scientifically and efficiently optimized and deployed the production line, laying the foundation for subsequent capacity ramping up and diversified product production.
As production conditions mature, Fuwai Wheel's market expansion has also made progress. Since September, the company has reached cooperation intentions with multiple industry clients and signed several supply agreements, with its products to be used in well-known brand vehicle models; meanwhile, the negotiation and communication with multiple mainstream OEMs are actively underway.
Fuwei Wheels stated that in the future, it will continue to enhance supply chain security and product delivery capabilities, promote the large-scale application of magnesium alloy lightweight technology in more fields, and strive to become a trusted green and sustainable materials application partner for customers.
Great Wall Motor won 6 awards at the Automotive Lightweight Conference, with the application of semi-solid magnesium alloy becoming an industry-first.
On September 19, news came from the 2025 (18th) Automotive Lightweighting Conference that Great Wall Motor, with its "new generation of super-strong high-performance body" and a series of innovative technologies, won 6 awards in one fell swoop, becoming the "grand slam" award-winning manufacturer in the concurrent body conference and lightweight design competition, among which the "semi-solid injection magnesium alloy C-ring" was awarded the Innovation Achievement Award.
The participating vehicle body is equipped with a dashboard frame and C-ring structural components made of magnesium alloy, and the industry-leading semi-solid injection molding process is applied to the C-ring structural components. Compared with the original aluminum alloy solution, it can reduce weight by 28%, increase the torsional stiffness of the vehicle body by 197 Nm/°, and Great Wall Motors is currently the first in the industry to apply semi-solid magnesium alloy materials to vehicle body structural components.
Liuzhou Holds Lightweight Exchange and Seminar to Focus on Connecting the Entire Magnesium Alloy Industry Chain
On September 19, the Liuzhou "Lightweighting: Unveiling a New Journey, Magnesium Painting a Blueprint" Lightweighting Exchange Seminar was held at the Liugang Technology Center. The conference took the application of new materials to drive lightweight development as its core topic, inviting representatives from leading enterprises in relevant industries in Liuzhou and high-quality enterprises in the upstream and downstream of the domestic magnesium industry, such as Baowu Magnesium Industry, to conduct brainstorming sessions and precisely match cooperation needs. Currently, Liuzhou is combining expert resources and focusing on removing the bottlenecks in the entire chain of "material R&D - process innovation - vehicle application" to overcome the key obstacles in the industrialization process of magnesium alloy materials.
From the perspective of development path, in recent years, Liuzhou has consistently listed the new materials industry as a key direction for strengthening, supplementing, and extending the industrial chain. At the material production end, Liuzhou supports enterprises such as Liugang to explore the production of magnesium alloy materials, promoting the construction of the local magnesium alloy industrial chain from scratch; at the application R&D end, it encourages enterprises such as SAIC-GM-Wuling, Guangxi Automobile Group, and LIUGONG to carry out R&D on lightweight technologies, helping to achieve application breakthroughs in replacing aluminum with magnesium and laying a solid foundation for industrial upgrading.
The meeting introduced that the new energy vehicle industry has now entered a period of explosive growth, and "lightweighting" has become the core competitiveness determining a vehicle's cruising range, energy efficiency, and safety performance. As the "green engineering material of the 21st century", magnesium alloy, with a density only two-thirds that of aluminum, combines advantages such as high strength and low cost, and is the "key" to solving the problem of vehicle lightweighting.
Recently, the domestic magnesium alloy industry has achieved multiple breakthroughs in technological innovation, production capacity implementation, and regional layout, emerging as a key driving force for the lightweight transformation of industries such as automotive. At the enterprise practice level, the magnesium alloy base of Fuwei Wheels has made critical progress, with its four core modules completing commissioning and achieving automated process commissioning with parts, officially attaining the capacity for large-scale mass production of bracket products. Meanwhile, business cooperation has been yielding frequent positive results, with supply agreements already signed with multiple customers, indicating promising market prospects. In terms of regional industrial layout, Liuzhou is supporting enterprises such as Liugang in building magnesium alloy production chains, encouraging enterprises such as SAIC-GM-Wuling to break through the application of magnesium as a substitute for aluminum, and leveraging expert resources to address bottlenecks across the entire "material R&D - process innovation - vehicle application" chain. Against the backdrop of the explosive growth of the new energy vehicle industry, lightweighting has become a core competitiveness, and magnesium alloy materials, with their low density and high strength, are accelerating to become the key to solving the lightweighting challenge through enterprise technological innovation and urban industrial layout.
