Port Arrivals by Port
SMM China's total coal port arrivals were 9.3503 million mt, up 9.8% WoW. Among them, the total port arrivals at 11 main ports were 4.698 million mt, up 28.2%. The total port arrivals at Guangzhou Port were 1.0979 million mt, up 37.5%, accounting for 11.7% of the total port arrivals.
Port arrivals by type
China's thermal coal port arrivals were 6.44 million mt, up 5.9% WoW. China's coking coal port arrivals were 2.532 million mt, up 18.5%.

Shipment Data
Overview of Last Week (2024.7.13-2024.7.19)
Shipments by Port
SMM's global coal shipments were 23.5407 million mt, down 12.8% WoW. Among them, the shipments from the seven main ports were 10.33 million mt, down 2.6%. The shipments from Newcastle Port in Australia were 2.86 million mt, down 3.7%, accounting for 12% of the total shipments.
Shipments by Type
Global thermal coal shipments were 12.314 million mt, down 17.9% WoW. Global coking coal shipments were 10.176 million mt, down 9% WoW.

This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
