The integration rate of LFP cathode enterprises continues to grow. How big is the demand for iron phosphate external sales?

SMM February 22: With the rapid expansion of iron phosphate production capacity, the overcapacity situation in the industry is gradually intensifying, followed by a price decline, market competition is becoming more and more fierce, and it is increasingly difficult for iron phosphate companies to make profits, the price bottom line is constantly being tested...

Iron phosphate is the precursor of lithium iron phosphate and can only be used as LFP cathode. This unidirectionality determines that the demand for iron phosphate is directly affected by iron lithium. To be precise, the impact of LFP market demand in addition to self-supply part.

Correspondingly, LFP companies are also actively promoting the integration process in terms of strategies to reduce costs,and rationally utilize local resources. The advantage of integration is that the same production base can reduce logistics and transportation costs, FP/LFP efficient supporting upgrade iterations are guaranteed, and communication costs for both parties are reduced. However, FP companies are also constantly improving their competitiveness. Although integrated companies do not have to worry about sales channels, but they may be limited due to conservative technology.

According to SMM research, currently there are 3 companies that have achieved an integration rate of more than 80%, 3 companies that have achieved an integration rate of 50%-80%, and 1 company that has achieved an integration rate of less than 50%. Among the companies that have already deployed integration, the comprehensive integration rate is 67%. The calculation logic of the integration rate is FP production capacity/(LFP production capacity * FP unit consumption). In fact, the iron phosphate enterprises of integrated enterprises have not reached full production, and there is still a need for external procurement of iron phosphate. If the iron phosphate production capacity of the integrated enterprise is fully released, a total of 1.3-1.5 million tons of production capacity will be put into operation.
