Total net imports of primary aluminium in the first quarter of 2023 were 213,000 mt, up 804% year-on-year. The main supplying countries in the first quarter were the Russian Federation, Iran and Bahrain. In the first quarter, total imports from the Russian Federation reached 172,500 mt in aluminium content, a year-on-year increase of 185%.
According to feedback from Russian aluminium metal producers and related domestic enterprises, some domestic downstream processing enterprises have long-term contracts with Russian aluminium suppliers, and there will still be long-term demand for some low-carbon aluminium from Russia in the future. Most China’s aluminium imports will come from Russia in the future.
