SHANGHAI, May 16 (SMM) - Chilean Minister of Economy Nicolas Grau spoke for the first time on the "nationalisation of the lithium industry" and shared a series of possible follow-up progress. In an interview with the media, Grau said that National Copper Corporation of Chile (Codelco) will start dialogues with companies operating in the Atacama Salar Flats as soon as possible, especially SQM, whose mining contract expires in 2030.
In the process of nationalising the lithium industry, Chile's strategy also includes the establishment of a new state-owned lithium industry company. However, before the Congress approves the new state-owned enterprise, it has to rely on existing companies to promote the process.
