Core Technology of Graphene-Coated Aluminium Foil and Its Advantages

Its light transmittance of only 2.3%, the antibacterial property is as high as 99.9%, the strength is 200 times that of steel, and the specific surface area reaches 2630 ㎡/g.

At the 4th Automotive New Materials Summit 2022 - New Energy Aluminium Plate/Sheet and Foil Development Forum, Liu Fuhai, general manager of Foshan SSNTM Co., introduced the basic principles, core technologies, characteristics as well as the application fields of graphene-coated aluminium foil.

The basic principle and core technology of graphene-coated aluminium foil

Graphene is categorised as carbon nano materials. It develops from three-dimensional spherical fullerene to two-dimensional tubular carbon nano tube, and finally the current layered graphene.

Graphene has eight physical properties, including optics, biology, mechanics, chemistry, acoustics, thermology, magnetism, and electronics. Its light transmittance of only 2.3%, the antibacterial property is as high as 99.9%, the strength is 200 times that of steel, and the specific surface area reaches 2630 ㎡/g. It does not play a chemical role with acid and alkali and is super-hydrophilic/hydrophobicity. It produces damping effect through air, and has a thermal conductivity 13 times that of copper. Meanwhile, it is with spin polarization effect, the conductivity is better than silver and copper. Its heat conversion rate is high, and the quantum dots have fluorescence imaging.

Through the characteristic data and physical mechanism of graphene, it can be used to produce high-quality graphene lithium-ion water-based conductive paste through core technologies such as ultra-high-purity/ultra-low-layer graphene macro-preparation technology and excellent dispersion technology. The continuous production capability of high-quality graphene lithium-ion water-based conductive paste can effectively improve the interface between the electrode material and the current collector, and achieve thinner thickness, anti-corrosion, improved adhesion, small interface resistance, fast transmission, improve cycled performance, voltage consistency, as well as improved temperature safety, etc.

Through actual product application analysis, it can be found that compared with ordinary plain aluminium foil and carbon black-coated aluminium foil, graphene-coated aluminium foil is thinner and more uniform in microscopic morphology, and also has higher corrosion resistance.

The eight physical properties of graphene-coated aluminium foil also enable it to meet the different needs of current sodium-ion batteries, lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, all-solid-state batteries and other applications.
