SHANGHAI, May 24 (SMM) - Recently, the General Administration of Customs released the import and export data for April 2022.
In April, China exported 638,000 mt of coke, a decrease of 5.1% from the previous month but an increase of 83.5% from the same period last year. From January to April, the cumulative export volume was 2.246 million mt. In April, China imported 39,000 mt of coke, a decrease of 31.6% from the previous month and 18.6% from the same period last year, with the total import volume standing at 150,000 mt from January to April.
In April, China mainly exported coke to India, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, France and Italy, with the total volume standing at 434,000 mt. Among them, 119,000 mt was exported to India, accounting for 19% of the total. 88,000 mt was exported to Indonesia, accounting for 14% of the total export volume, 81,000 mt to Japan, accounting for 13% of the total, 52,000 mt to Brazil, accounting for 8% of the total, 50,000 mt to France, accounting for 8% of the total, and 44,000 mt to Italy, accounting for 7% of the total.
In April, China mainly imported coke from Japan and Indonesia, with an import volume of 37,000 mt, accounting for 94.9% of the total. Among them, 30,000 mt was imported from Japan, accounting for 70% of the total, and 7,000 mt were imported from Indonesia, accounting for 18% of the total imports.
According to SMM analysis, China exported 638,000 mt of coke in April 2022. The export volume in April decreased by 5.1%, but up 83.5% YoY, so the export of coke in April 2022 is still favourable. France and Italy imported 50,000 mt and 44,000 mt from China respectively. The European energy crisis is not over, and the Russia-Ukraine war is still going on. At present, the coke prices in China have dropped for three rounds, and the fourth round will probably appear this week. In May, the export volume of coke from China may continue to maintain a high level due to the low prices.
