SMM5 March 17: most of the non-ferrous metals market is red today. By the end of the day, international copper and Shanghai copper fell 0.07%, Shanghai aluminum rose 1.39%, Shanghai lead rose 0.6%, Shanghai zinc rose 1.84%, Shanghai nickel rose 1.98%, and Shanghai tin rose 2.5%. As for lead, according to SMM, as of Monday, the total inventory of SMM lead ingots in the five places reached 85900 tons, up 1900 tons from last Friday and 16700 tons from Monday. According to research, with the resumption of production of primary lead and recycled lead smelters, supply continues to increase, but the consumer sector has not improved for the time being. At the same time, today is the time of delivery of lead 2105 contracts in Shanghai, delivery sources continue to rush to delivery warehouses, and social warehouses continue to increase. In the second half of the week, the pace of transfer of lead ingot inventory may slow down with the end of delivery, and refinery inventory may increase if consumption is not boosted for the time being.

[SMM research] the lead ingot stock continues to increase in the current month when the contract is due to be delivered.

On the black side, threads fell 2.86%, hot rolls fell 5.09%, coking coal rose 1.18%, coke fell 1.08%, iron ore rose 0.93%, and stainless steel rose 1.02%. SMM believes that volume prices peaked last week, releasing a long backlog of panic. In the short term, the national level is highly concerned about commodity prices, production restriction policies have not yet made substantial progress, and fundamental support is insufficient. Volume prices or homeopathy continue to fall, shock adjustment to digest market sentiment. In the medium to long term, global inflationary pressures still need to be released, the upward trend of commodities is difficult to effectively reverse in the second quarter, and after the volume price adjustment is in place, it is expected to set sail again to explore new highs.

[SMM brief Review] Market sentiment continues to digest the hot volume and continues to fall by more than 5%.

Crude oil rose 2.3 per cent in the previous period, and international oil prices remained within a narrow range on Monday after the resumption of important US oil pipelines eased supply concerns, but a new round of epidemic restrictions in Asia dampened sentiment. The gasoline shortage that plagued the east coast of the United States eased on Sunday, with more than 1000 gas stations receiving supplies as the nation's largest fuel pipeline network recovered from a pause caused by hacking attacks.

In terms of precious metals, Shanghai gold rose 1.59 per cent and Shanghai silver rose 2.96 per cent, while international spot gold rose to a more than three-month high on Monday as falling US bond yields and concerns about a surge in novel coronavirus cases in some Asian economies boosted gold's attractiveness. Analysts point out that inflation is a strong driver of gold prices in the short to medium term, and there have been concerns about the Fed's contraction, but the latest non-farm payrolls data have helped dampen that concern.
