SMM: according to the latest vehicle registration data released by the Hong Kong Transport Department, Tesla registered 912 vehicles in August 2020, making it the most popular car brand in Hong Kong, while the Model 3 (parameter | inquiry) has also become the highest-selling passenger model in Hong Kong, surpassing other fuel and electric passenger cars, Tesla said on the social platform on Sept. 17, according to the latest vehicle registration data released by the Hong Kong Transport Department. Model 3 was delivered in Hong Kong for the first time in August last year and has since won the favor of Hong Kong consumers.

Coincidentally, Tesla's performance abroad has also soared. According to foreign media reports, in August this year, Tesla Model 3 topped the list of German electric vehicle sales, with the number of purchases and registration reaching 2824, setting a record. In addition to Tesla Model 3, it was followed by Renault ZOE, sales of 2210, down 600 from a year earlier, Mercedes-Benz A250e with 1939, Ford Kuga PHEV with 1588 and Volkswagen Passat with 1444.

As early as mid-2019, Germany overtook Norway for the first time to become the largest electric car market in Europe in the first half of 2019, according to data released by the German Automotive Management Center, an automobile market research institute.

In 2020, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic, car companies and dealers in Europe did not begin to resume work until May, superimposing factors such as subsidy incentives and carbon emission requirements, resulting in a significant month-on-month increase in electric vehicle sales in May. Among them, Germany allowed car dealers to reopen at the end of April, and electric car sales in May were 12333, up 56.13% from a year earlier and 20.29% from a month earlier. From January to May 2020, a total of 74980 electric vehicles were sold in Germany, an increase of 92.4 per cent over the same period last year, with an electric penetration rate of 7.6 per cent.

Some foreign media pointed out that the market share of German electric vehicles may reach 10% this year. This means that in 2020, Germany's electric vehicle market will show a strong S-curve growth trend.

Editor's comments:

EV Sales, a US new energy vehicle sales statistics website, recently released global electric vehicle sales data. In 2018, global sales of electric vehicles reached 2.018 million, and electric vehicles accounted for 2.1 per cent of the global car market. In terms of car models, the first place is Tesla Model 3. Tesla Model 3 sales of 39632 vehicles in June this year, the first half of the total sales of 128372 vehicles, sales continued to strengthen.

People's cognition and attitude towards electric vehicles have changed fundamentally, and several labels of Tesla's success are the "advanced intelligent technology, excellent driving performance and basic safety performance" that people are most concerned about at present.

Tozero Launches Industrial Demo Plant to Recover Lithium from Waste Batteries
German company, Tozero, announced on March 27 (local time) the official launch of its industrial-scale demonstration plant. The company has built a facility at the Gendorf chemical park in Bavaria, Germany, capable of processing more than 1,500 tons of waste batteries annually. The process enables the recovery of lithium carbonate, graphite, and nickel-cobalt mixtures from spent batteries for reuse as battery raw materials. The plant is expected to recycle resources equivalent to batteries from approximately 6,000 electric vehicles per year, reducing reliance on landfill disposal.
