SMM: a few days ago, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, said that Tesla may mass produce batteries with a longer life and a 50% increase in energy density within three to four years.

"the mass production of Tesla's energy density of 400Wh/kg batteries with long cycle life is not far away, or will be achieved in three to four years," Musk said on Twitter on Aug. 24. "

The researchers said that the energy density of the Panasonic "2170" battery used in Tesla Model 3 is 260W / kg, which means that the energy density of Tesla's battery will be 50% higher than at present, and that higher energy density is the key to achieving longer mileage.

In addition, Tesla also showed a background picture in which many points were gathered into a column, causing a lot of speculation in the media and fans. South Korean battery expert Park Chul-wan said the background image may suggest silicon nanowire anodes, a breakthrough technology that can improve battery energy density and battery life.

Tesla is scheduled to hold a "Battery Day" on September 22nd, when the company will disclose the great progress in its battery performance.

Panasonic earlier revealed that it plans to increase the energy density of the 2170 battery supplied to Tesla by 20 per cent within five years. Tesla is also reported to be working with China's Ningde Times to launch a new low-cost, long-life battery for its Model 3 sedan later this year or early next year, with a range of 1 million miles.
