SHANGHAI, Sep 21 (SMM) – Some 15,000 mt of molten iron daily production will be affected in Linfen of Shanxi province as the government imposes curbs on two of its major steel mills, Liheng Iron & Steel and Jianbang Iron & Steel, from September 21 to October 10.
During this period, all of the seven blast furnaces at Liheng should be suspended, affecting some 12,000 mt of molten iron output per day. One blast furnace of 450m³and another of 550m³were asked to suspend at Jianbang, with the rest furnaces halving production, SMM learned. This will affect daily production of molten iron by around 3,000 mt.
This move is part of the city’s efforts to control smog and improve its standing in an air quality ranking across China. In late August, the municipal government had required industrial pollutant sources in its central areas to cut or suspend production from the beginning of September.
