Most secondary lead smelters in without production permits will temporarily suspend operations while those with permits will reduce production, as Jiangxi province faces environmental supervision

SHANGHAI, May 9 (SMM) – Most secondary lead smelters in Jiangxi province without production permits will temporarily suspend operations while those with permits will reduce production, as the province faces environmental supervision from central authorities starting on May 9, SMM learned.

In May, the Ministry of Ecology & Environment will carry out inspections on illegal involvement with solid waste materials across 11 provinces and cities along the Yangtze River's economic area. This includes Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou.

This move is likely to affect average daily output of about 1,000 mt of secondary lead across Jiangxi. A secondary lead smelter with production permits told SMM that the probes will end on May 15 and that it expects its production to be affected by some 50%.
