China's February cobalt sulphate production fell 4.5% from January to stand at 1,680 mmt, SMM data showed.

SHANGHAI, Mar 13 (SMM) – China's cobalt sulphate production fell 4.5% from January to stand at 1,680 mmt in February, SMM data showed.

Production was affected as some plants in Guangxi and Zhejiang suspended production for Chinese New Year and as Guangdong experienced power cuts for a week. Production in Jiangxi for February increased from January as operations recovered and as major plants maintained production during the holiday.

Inventories of cobalt sulphate in February remained stable as many precursor plants purchased before the holiday.

SMM expects China's cobalt sulphate production in March to rise to 1,900 mmt as operations resume at plants after the holiday. Higher profits from cobalt sulphate production, over cobalt chloride production, will also encourage producers to produce more cobalt sulphate.
