Votorantim Ceases Zinc Smelter in Peru on Flood

Brazil-based Votorantim suspended operation at Cajamarquilla zinc smelter in Peru due to a flood, according to wenhua.com.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 23 (SMM) - Brazil-based Votorantim suspended operation at Cajamarquilla zinc smelter in Peru due to a flood, according to wenhua.com.

The company is undertaking maintenance work at present and will restart as soon as weather conditions improve.

Peru is the third largest zinc producing country in the world. The flood may last for another month.

Peru’s government said the railway line which delivers about half of the country’s zinc production to ports had been suspended due to the flood.

Cajamarquilla smelter produced about 340,000 tonnes of zinc in 2016, according to government data.
