Congo’s Copper Ore, Zinc Ore Output Falls in 2016, SMM Reports

The Central Bank of Democratic Republic of Congo said the country’s output of copper ore, zinc ore and cobalt ore fell in 2016, SMM reported.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 4 (SMM) - The Central Bank of Democratic Republic of Congo said the country’s output of copper ore, zinc ore and cobalt ore fell in 2016, SMM reported.

Copper ore output decreased 5.05% year-on-year to 986,582 tonnes in 2016, while zinc ore production was down 0.12% year-on-year to 12,587 tonnes. Cobalt ore output decreased 7.35% year-on-year to 77,392 tonnes.

China Molybdenum acquired a 56% stake in Freeport’s Tenke copper-coblat mine for $2.65 billion, which is located in Democratic Republic of Congo.
