Red River Resources Ltd has increased the Far West resource at the Thalanga Zinc Project by 42% to 1.6 million tonnes at 14.9% zinc equivalent.

SHANGHAI, May 19 (SMM) - Red River Resources Ltd has expanded the Far West resource at the Thalanga Zinc Project by 42% to 1.6 million tonnes at 14.9% zinc equivalent.

Thalanga is located 65 kilometres southwest of Charter Towers in central Queensland.

The Far West upgrade represents a 49% increase in contained metal to 245,000 tonnes of zinc equivalent and a 5% increase in grade.

Once completed, an update of the Thalanga Zinc Project will commence.

But the commencement of Thalanga Zinc Project build-out will only give limited effect on Australia’s zinc output, says SMM.Auastralia’s zinc ore output claims 12% of global total, with 1.63 million tonnes of zinc equivalent in 2015. The output contributed by the expansion will not offset output declines from closure at Century mine, Lady Loretta mine and McArthur River mine.
