SHANGHAI, Apr. 7 (SMM) – Utilization rata at pig iron producers is now at 65.63% in Shandong, down 20.87% year-on-year, local media reported.

Following the closures of 2 pig iron producers in Linyi, unqualified pig iron producers in Liaocheng, also in Shandong Province, have been required to shut down as environmental protection inspections in the Province remains stringent. Meanwhile, 3 pig iron producers in Qingzhou also halted production.

A total number of 32 blast furnaces locate in Shandong Province, 11 of which have been shut down for upgrading.

Shandong has conducted its stricter environmental protection inspections earlier this year, and many unqualified producers in high-polluting sectors, such as steel and NPI, have been closed for failing to meet environmental requirement since earlier March.

So far, pig iron producers in Shanxi, Hebei and Liaoning, have not suffered from stricter environmental protection inspections, but some producers in those regions chose to suspend production due to sluggish prices, leaving China’s overall pig iron utilization rate at around 60 %.
