SAO PAULO (Scrap Monster): According to statistics provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade, the country’s pig iron exports during the month of June this year surged higher significantly when compared on month-on-month and year-on-year basis.
Brazil’s pig iron exports totaled 279,106 tons during June ’15. The total exports climbed higher by 14.4% from the previous month. The country’s pig iron exports had totaled 243,943 tons during the month of May this year. When compared with the exports during the same month a year before, the June ’15 pig iron exports were up by 40.6%. Brazil had exported 198,404 mt of pig iron during June last year.
The primary destination of Brazilian pig iron exports was the US. The country imported 136,408 tons of pig iron from Brazil during the month. In second place was Mexico with 67,996 tons. The imports by Canada declined sharply during the month. The average export price to the US stood at $253 per ton FOB, whereas exports to Mexico averaged at $231 per ton FOB.
The pig iron exports by the country during the initial six months of the year totaled 1.3 million tons.
