Newdelhi(ScrapMonster): In the situation where the steel industry of India is facing many problems, Narendra Sigh Tomar, the Steel Minister of India, stated that, the government of India is trying to increase the supply of iron ore in the country.

Tomar also claimed that, the Supreme Court's ban on the coal blocks had not yet disrupted the supply of coal to the domestic steel industry. Even so, due to the unavailability of the raw material, which is iron ore, many of the steel plants are importing iron ore into the country.

The Minister declared in the Lok Sabha that, the government is trying their best to increase the domestic availability of iron ore to the steel manufacturers in the country. According to the Minister, the steel industry only has a single problem which is the unavailability of iron in the country. The mining of iron ore has been affected by the judgment passed by the Supreme Court, which was imposed as a preventive measure to put a halt on the illegal mining in the country. Now the court has lifted ban on some of the iron ore miners

He also added that, the coal production in some of the coal blocks had been only permitted till the end of March 2015, next year. Therefore the coal supply to the steel plants has not been affected by the ban applied by the Supreme Court. He was answering to the question asked in the Lok Sabha, whether the government had taken any steps to avoid the adverse effect of the ban of coal by the Supreme court on operating steel plants in the country.

He also added that the Steel Ministry has been discussing the matter of energy providing facility to the domestic steel plants, with the Coal Ministry of the country. Many representations had been received from the numerous number of stakeholders asserting on the matter of maintaining the supply of coal to the steel and iron ore manufacturers in the country, in the brand new allocation process.

He further stated that, with the alliance of the Coal Ministry, the Steel Ministry had made sure that the steel plants in the country are provided with adequate amount of coal for the production of the commodity. The government has already issued to new projects of SAIL, which would ensure the increase in steel production in the country
