NEW DELHI (Scrap Monster): The Chairman as well as the Managing Director of JSW Steel, Sajjan Jindal, stated that, the company is planning to set a 500 km long slurry pipeline, which would bear iron ore into the company’s Vijayanagar plant located in Bellary, which is almost a port near to Goa. Jindal plans to increase the output of the Vijayanagar plant to 20 million tonnes by the year 2022, from the present production of 10 million tonnes, which would be enough to rate the plant as world’s largest single site steel plant.
Jindal announced the matter, while speaking at an inauguration function at the Ispat Pragati Bhawan, which is the brand new office of Insdag. He commented that the state; Karnataka, could offer the plant a maximum of only 15 million tonnes of iron ore, but the process of producing 20 million tonnes of steel might require about 35 million tonnes of iron ore.
And as a solution the company is putting up a 500 km long pipeline from Jaigarh, located near to the Goa, to the Bellary, the whole process of construction of the pipeline might cost about 321.543 million dollars (2000 crores INR). The construction of the pipelines will be completed within 2 years.
The company is also planning to import the required iron ore from the overseas sources. The Chairman of the company confirmed that, the 50 percent of iron ore consumption of the plant would be completed with the domestic production mostly from the state itself.
