SHANGHAI, Sep. 19 (SMM) – The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that China produced 174,100 mt of copper concentrate in August, up 5.58% MoM and 0.12% YoY. January-August output grew 5.68% to 1.22 million mt.
Cooler weather in August allowed some copper mines to reopen. Many small mines in Anhui returned to full production following technology upgrades. Mines in Tibet and Inner Mongolia also reported increased yields.
Higher altitude copper mines usually shut down for the final quarter as colder weather sets in. SMM thus expects these mines to step up production in September, pushing output slightly up this month.
