NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production advanced 2.4% year-on-year to 1,901,000 net tons in the week ended August 2nd this year while the capability utilization rate was 79.0 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Production was 1,856,000 net tons in the week ending August 2, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 77.4 percent.
According to AISI, production for the week is down 1% from the previous week when production was 1,920,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 79.8 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through August 2, 2014 was 56,448 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.8 percent. That is up 0.4 percent from the 56,242 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.8 percent.
Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending August 2, 2014 in thousands of net tons: North East: 240; Great Lakes: 693; Midwest: 240; Southern: 640 and Western: 88 for a total of 1,901.
