US Raw Steel production advances 3.1% to 1,880,000 net tons

United States raw steel production advanced by 3.1% year-on-year to 1,880,000 net tons in the week ending June 21st this year.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States raw steel production advanced by 3.1% year-on-year to 1,880,000 net tons in the week ending June 21st this year while the capability utilization rate was 78.2 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,824,000 net tons in the week ending June 21, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 76.1 percent.

Production for the week ending June 21, 2014 is up 1.6 percent from the previous week ending June 14, 2014 when production was 1,850,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.9 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through June 21, 2014 was 45,115 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.4 percent. That is a 0.1 percent decrease from the 45,163 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.7 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending June 21, 2014 in thousands of net tons: North East: 226; Great Lakes: 665; Midwest: 243; Southern: 657 and Western: 89 for a total of 1,880.
