US Raw Steel production rises to 1,711,000 net tons

United States raw steel production rose by 3.8% year-on-year to 1,711,000 net tons in the week ended April 30.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States raw steel production rose by 3.8% year-on-year to 1,711,000 net tons in the week ended April 30 while the capability utilization rate was 73.2 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, domestic raw steel production was 1,649,000 net tons in the week ended April 30, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 69.8 percent. 

Production for the week ended April 30, 2016 is up 1.6 percent from the previous week ended April 23, 2016 when production was 1,684,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.0 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through April 30, 2016 was 30,009,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.3 percent. That is down 1.6 percent from the 30,493,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.5 percent.
