South China Aluminum: Traders Active in Selling, Prices Struggle at RMB 16,000/mt

SHFE 1208 aluminum contract price remained stable above the 5-day moving average Friday but failed to move higher due to a lack of upward momentum.

SHANGHAI, May 18 (SMM) – SHFE 1208 aluminum contract price remained stable above the 5-day moving average Friday but failed to move higher due to a lack of upward momentum. Spot aluminum price in Nanhai were between RMB 16,160-16,180/mt, up RMB 30/mt from the previous trading day. Downstream buyers replenish stocks moderately ahead of the weekend, but transactions turned quiet with aluminum prices increasing. Spot prices in Shanghai market, compared with Nanhai market, did not show significant rise, causing the price difference between the two regions expanding to RMB 160/mt.
