Emirates Steel Starts $650 Million Abu Dhabi Heavy Section Plant

Emirates Steel Industries PJSC, the state-owned company that operates the largest steel plant in the United Arab Emirates, said its $650 million Heavy Section Mill started operations.

Jan 3, 2012 -- Emirates Steel Industries PJSC, the state-owned company that operates the largest steel plant in the United Arab Emirates, said its $650 million Heavy Section Mill started operations.

Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Steel is now the only producer of jumbo and heavy sections in the Middle East and Africa, Chairman Suhail al-Ameri said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.

The company added that it now has an annual direct-reduced iron capacity for 3.2 million metric tons and steel-making capacity for 2.8 million tons. Total output will reach 6.5 million tons a year in four years, Emirates Steel said.
