SHANGHAI, Aug. 10 (SMM)--According to sources, Guangxi province is restricting power supply at industrial users. According to SMM sources, most local zinc mining operators have suspended production.

Guangxi province has sent the early warning signal of power shortages as a result of short high water period, weakened power generation ability and high electricity demand in this summer. Guangxi Power Grid Company is making efforts to secure power supply to residential users by restricting operation at nonferrous metals producers.

According to a SMM survey of zinc mining operators in Guangxi province, most of them were affected by power restrictions. 80% of the surveyed enterprises have suspended production, with only a few of them remaining in production, but with operating rates lower than 50%.

According to industrial sources, Guangxi province is supposed to experience the severest power shortages in 20 years. SMM predicts that zinc concentrate supply in Guangxi province will be reduced if power shortages fail to ease.
