ArcelorMittal Cuts Belgian Finished Steel Production

Dec. 3 -- ArcelorMittal Liège plans to idle one tinplate line, two galvanising lines, and one organic coating line, as well as one pickling line and cold rolling mill, in the first quarter of 2011, according to Steel Business Briefing. There is no fixed start date yet for the stoppage. The decision to idle the equipment comes in response to the weak market situation at the moment, and the equipment will be restarted as soon as the economic situation will allow, a spokesperson for the Belgian steelworks said. The Liège plant is ArcelorMittal’s smallest tin mill operation in Europe, with most production coming from its plants in France and Spain.
