China-Kinwa High Technology Company Expands Copper Foil Production Capacity for Battery Market

SHANGHAI, April 9 (SMM) - China-Kinwa High Technology Company's 15,000-mt high grade copper foil project has started construction in Qinghai recently. Chen Yuan, the chairman of the board of the company said the expansion is mainly designed for the development of lithium battery used in automobiles. Upon the completion, the company will become one of largest high-grade copper foil producers in the world, and this will further consolidate its advantage position in the power battery field.

Relying on the copper industry chain, China-Kinwa High Technology Company always views the development of high-trade copper foil and middle to high value-added wires and cables as its pillar industry. The copper foil sector has become a major contributor to the company's profits. In 2007, China-Kinwa High Technology Company began the construction of its 10000-mt high grade copper foil project in Qinghai, with mass production at present. Coupled with the new 15,000 mt of high-grade copper foil project, the company will have a total annual copper foil capacity of about 30,000 mt after the completion, ranking in the top 3 copper foil producer in the world. According to the data, the company totally invests around RMB 1.8 billion for the 1st and 2nd phase of the copper foil project.

High-grade copper foil is one of important electronic materials for the development of China's information industry, and is also basic material for lithium ion battery. Demand for high-grade copper foil, as one major material for power battery used in automobiles will experience explosive growth in the coming several years. At present, copper foil products from China-Kinwa High Technology Company are now all applied for lithium-ion battery for mobiles, accounting for half of market shares. In addition, the company has the core technology of 4-400 micron copper foil. With rapid growth of demand for power battery used in automobiles, China-Kinwa High Technology Company will have a great potential for development of its high-grade copper foil.
