SHANGHAI, Dec 23 (SMM) - According to General Administration of Customs, Chinese polysilicon imports in November 2022 were 9,403 mt, down 1.6% MoM but up 12.9% YoY.
According to SMM research, domestic polysilicon imports dropped significantly from January to November 2022 mainly due to accelerated production expansion and supply growth in China. Specifically, Chinese polysilicon supply totalled 710,000 million mt from January to November, a growth of 65% YoY. The rising polysilicon production in China partly accounted for the MoM fall in the import volume in November. But on the other hand, the import volume did not fall significantly amid the centralised restocking activities ahead of the Chinese New Year in November.
SMM believes that the imports in December will fall palpably trailing the continuous supply growth in China. The polysilicon supply is expected to approach 100,000 mt in December. In addition, downstream demand will contract amid spreading covid, approaching Chinese New Year and poor weather conditions. The imports will fall on the backdrop of oversupply.
