【SMM Analysis】Post-holiday Work Resumption Delays Cause Cobalt Sulfate Increase to Fall Short of Expectations

【SMM Analysis】Post-holiday work resumption delays have led to cobalt sulfate production increase falling short of expectations. In March, China's cobalt sulfate production was 4,795 metric tonnes, a month-on-month increase of 18% but a year-on-year decrease of 36%.

In March, China's production of cobalt sulfate was 4,795 metric tons, representing an 18% increase month-on-month, but a 36% decrease year-on-year. The primary reason for the increase in production this month is that most primary raw material companies resumed normal operations after the end of the Spring Festival holiday, while recycling companies have been slow to restart due to weak market demand. Meanwhile, post-holiday raw material prices remained high, putting cost pressure on salt manufacturers, which constrained part of the production increase, hence the actual increase in production was less than expected.

It is anticipated that in April, the market does not hold an optimistic outlook for future demand, and with inventory accumulating, it will be difficult for smelting plants to increase their operation rates. The estimated production is about 4,888 metric tons, marking a 2% increase month-on-month and a 19% decrease year-on-year.

[Beijing's H1 Passenger Car New L2 Assisted Driving Penetration Rate Reaches 77.5%, L3 Mass-Produced Models First to Land] At the Media Roundtable of the 2026 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference, Su Guobin, Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, introduced that in H1 2026, the penetration rate of Level 2 combined assisted driving among new passenger cars in the city reached 77.5%, higher than the national average level of 70%; BAIC Arcfox Alpha S became one of the first L3-level conditional autonomous driving mass-produced car models nationwide, taking the lead in achieving legal road operation and commercial deployment of high-level autonomous driving; supported by the country’s first high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone, Beijing has cumulatively issued over 1,500 test licenses, with safe testing mileage exceeding 65 million kilometers. In terms of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei collaboration, Beijing is jointly building an intelligent connected NEV technology and ecology port with Tianjin and Hebei, which has attracted over 200 industry chain enterprises, with 53 signing and settling. Next, Beijing will focus on four aspects: industrialisation of high-level autonomous driving, “Dual Intelligence” 4 construction, core technology breakthroughs, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei industrial collaboration, to build a world-class industrial cluster.

CGN Ningde 200 MW Offshore PV Project Connected to Grid, Reduces Coal Use and CO2 Emissions
[CGN Ningde 200 MW Offshore PV Project Fully Connected to Grid and Generating Power] The CGN Ningde 200 MW offshore PV project has been fully connected to the grid and is generating power. The project is one of the first batch of offshore PV projects in Fujian Province, and also CGN's first "nuclear-PV co-located" offshore PV project. It has an installed capacity of 200 MW and is equipped with a 20 MW/40 megawatt hour ESS. During its 25-year operational period, the project is expected to deliver an average annual on-grid power generation of about 300 million kWh, equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by approximately 91,300 mt and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 198,000 mt.
