The delivery volume is increasing. Tesla intends to build a factory in India.

SMM: according to the financial report data released by Tesla, in the second quarter of 2020, Tesla produced a total of 82272 electric vehicles and delivered a total of 90891 electric vehicles to consumers. Of these, 29684 delivered cars were made in the Shanghai super factory, accounting for 32.6% of the delivery volume, or nearly 1/3.

In July 2018, Tesla reached an agreement with the Shanghai municipal government to build a local electric car super factory, which is also the first overseas super factory established by Tesla; in January 2019, the factory held a groundbreaking ceremony, with an annual production capacity of 250000 pure electric vehicles, including Model 3 series models; it was officially put into production at the end of last year, followed by the construction of the second phase of the plant, which will also be used for the production of Tesla, Model Y and other models in the future.

In addition, according to foreign media reports, Tesla hopes to build an R & D center in India and is currently in dialogue with the Indian government. For Tesla, India has always been a market they want to enter but it is difficult for them to enter. According to related sources, Tesla is in exploratory discussions with Karnataka government officials, and the company is likely to invest in Bangalore to build an R & D center, which will provide detailed proposals later.

Bangalore is a large industrial center in India, where a number of automakers have set up factories. If a local R & D center is set up, Tesla will attract local talent and participate in local activities, which will help them enter the Indian market.

As early as 2016, Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) showed concern for the Indian market. Jay Vijayan, then the chief information officer of Tesla, was born in India. He visited India on behalf of Tesla and discussed the possibility of exporting Tesla cars to India, but the plan has not been advanced for a variety of reasons.

Mr Musk said at the time that he had concerns about local regulatory policies, and that the Indian government forced foreign manufacturers engaged in local manufacturing to produce at least 30 per cent of their parts locally in India. this requirement has become the biggest obstacle for Tesla to enter the Indian market. But then the Indian Ministry of Industry and Commerce responded that Musk's statement was not correct. In fact, India wanted Tesla to build a factory there to make cars, while Musk's plan was to import cars into the Indian market before considering whether to build a factory. There were also rumors last year that Tesla was considering building a battery factory in India.
