In the field of clean power, not only lithium batteries are attracting more and more attention, but even fuel cells, which are still not widely used, are starting to speed up. Recently, 25 hydrogen-related companies in the European Union have formed the StasHH Task Alliance to jointly develop, develop and test the first European fuel cell module standard for heavy-duty applications.
The 25 companies come from fuel cell module suppliers, manufacturers and scientific research, engineering and testing institutions, including Toyota Europe, Volvo Engineering equipment and other well-known manufacturers. This fuel cell module standard may change the rules of the game in the fuel cell industry and enhance market competitiveness by promoting competition, reducing costs and mass production to meet different heavy-haul market needs such as forklifts, buses, heavy trucks, trucks, ships and so on.
The alliance received 7.5 million euros from the European Union through the joint fuel cell and hydrogen fuel program (FCH JU) to launch the application of fuel cells in heavy vehicles, which has a total budget of 15.2 million euros.
The StasHH Alliance will standardize the physical dimensions, digital interfaces, test protocols and safety requirements of fuel cell modules, which are the core of fuel cell systems. They designed a similar nomenclature for fuel cell modules, the "hh series".
After fuel cell module suppliers and manufacturers reach an industry consensus on standards, fuel cell module suppliers in the alliance will design and develop standardized modules for fuel cell modules with different power levels. These modules will be tested by testing institutions within the alliance according to the key indicators of benchmark performance and security. At the same time, the Alliance will work to promote the standard on European and international regulatory, normative and standard platforms so that it can be adopted globally.
"We are proud to support this strategic project, which is an important step towards decarbonization in the transport sector," said Bart biebubuck, executive director of FCH JU.
He pointed out that the project will pay special attention to the heavy truck industry and will play an important role in achieving the EU target of 100000 hydrogen trucks by 2030 in the future.
On December 9 last year, the European Commission announced the Sustainable and Intelligent Transport Strategy, which proposed to further reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the field of transportation in order to achieve the overall goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The strategy predicts that the number of hydrogen trucks in use in Europe will reach 10, 000 by 2025 and increase to 100000 by 2030.
