SHANGHAI, Jun 10 (SMM) – 376,700 new energy passenger vehicles were sold worldwide in April, down 19.34% month on month. The decline was normal as inhibited demand in January and February was unleashed in March, driving up sales number in March.
Many car makers adjusted production and orders in April as it is the first month of the second quarter. April is the period of low delivery of Model 3, which has no production base in Europe, also leading to month-on-month decline.

Sales of car makers generally fell in April. BYD was the only company among the top ten that achieved small growth. Many models of Volkswagen, such as ID.4, were popular in the European market. Sales of Tesla plunged 46.47%, ranking it the second. The slump of Tesla was mainly due to declining consumer confidence amid frequent accidents and delivery delay caused by car chip shortage-induced production suspension. Sales of BYD rose 6.99%, ranking it the fourth, as its new models were available, such as Qin PLUS DM-i, whose sales soared 43%.
