[ADC12 Price Daily Review: Limited Demand Growth and Cost Constraints Keep ADC12 Prices in the Doldrums] Today, China's spot price center for secondary aluminum alloy ADC12 moved lower, with SMM ADC12 quotes down by 100 yuan/mt.

Futures: The most-traded AD2701 cast aluminum alloy futures contract opened at 22,250 yuan/mt today. After hitting the intraday low in early trading, it climbed and shot up to 22,450 yuan/mt before pulling back on resistance. It closed the morning session at 22,355 yuan/mt, down 325 yuan, or 1.43%, from yesterday's settlement price of 22,680 yuan/mt. Half-day trading volume was 3,830 lots, accounting for 35.6% of yesterday's full-day total of 10,750 lots. Open interest decreased by 287 lots to 17,687 lots, with the rebound on falling open interest pointing to short covering as the dominant driver and limited new long positions.

Spot: China's secondary aluminum alloy ADC12 spot price center moved lower today, with the SMM ADC12 quote down 100 yuan/mt. Weighed by the continued weakness in aluminum prices and futures, bearish sentiment in the market has increased somewhat. Meanwhile, end-use demand has been sluggish, and downstream purchases remain largely need-based, leaving the market without conditions for a pickup in trading volume. Against the backdrop of persistently weak prices, holders have faced growing pressure to sell, and their willingness to cut prices to facilitate deals has strengthened accordingly. However, aluminum scrap raw material prices remain relatively firm, limiting the downside for production costs and providing some support to ADC12 spot prices. In the short term, with consumption lacking growth drivers and futures yet to stabilize, ADC12 prices are likely to continue to consolidate on a subdued note. Going forward, attention should be paid to the pace of recovery in end-user orders, changes in aluminum scrap prices, and the transmission from futures to spot.

[SMM Chromium Flash] Sylvania’s Thaba JV Supplements Mine Feed with Third-Party Chrome Ore Amid Mining Shortfalls
Sylvania Platinum's Thaba Joint Venture (JV) continued to supplement its mined run-of-mine (ROM) feed with third-party material in Q1 FY2027, as mining volumes and ore quality from its JV partner, Limberg Mining Company (LMC), remained below plan. The company reported approximately 32,888 mt of third-party ROM material, grading 27.9% Cr₂O₃ and 0.83 g/t in 4E platinum group metals (PGMs), in its attributable ROM feed figures for the quarter. Sylvania said the additional material helped sustain longer plant operating periods and more consistent throughput, while its higher chrome grade contributed positively to chrome recovery and product yield. Attributable ROM throughput increased 30% quarter on quarter to 63,703 mt, while combined plant feed rose 24% to 75,268 mt. The company described third-party sourcing as an interim measure and said it was engaging with LMC on action plans to improve mining performance, ROM feed quality and supply terms.

[SMM Chromium Flash] Sylvania’s Thaba JV Chrome Concentrate Production Rises 67% QoQ to 29,799 mt
Sylvania Platinum reported attributable chrome concentrate production of 29,799 mt from its Thaba Joint Venture (JV) in Q1 FY2027, representing a 67% quarter-on-quarter increase from 17,889 mt in Q4 FY2026. The improvement was supported by better processing plant stability, longer operating hours and higher throughput, alongside the sourcing of third-party run-of-mine (ROM) ore to supplement the JV's mined feed. The JV's overall chrome product mass yield increased to 39.59% from 29.50% in the previous quarter, an improvement of approximately 10 percentage points. Sylvania said the improved processing performance provides a stronger operational foundation, although mining volumes and ROM feed quality from its JV partner, Limberg Mining Company, remained below plan. The company continues to target attributable chrome concentrate production of 110,000–140,000 mt for FY2027.
