Sylvania Platinum's Thaba Joint Venture (JV) continued to supplement its mined run-of-mine (ROM) feed with third-party material in Q1 FY2027, as mining volumes and ore quality from its JV partner, Limberg Mining Company (LMC), remained below plan. The company reported approximately 32,888 mt of third-party ROM material, grading 27.9% Cr₂O₃ and 0.83 g/t in 4E platinum group metals (PGMs), in its attributable ROM feed figures for the quarter.
Sylvania said the additional material helped sustain longer plant operating periods and more consistent throughput, while its higher chrome grade contributed positively to chrome recovery and product yield. Attributable ROM throughput increased 30% quarter on quarter to 63,703 mt, while combined plant feed rose 24% to 75,268 mt. The company described third-party sourcing as an interim measure and said it was engaging with LMC on action plans to improve mining performance, ROM feed quality and supply terms.
