November 4, 2026 news:
Recently, South African chrome company Merafe released its production report for the period ended September 30, 2026. In the Glencore-Merafe Chrome joint venture, Merafe's ferrochrome production over the nine-month period was 61,000 mt, down 46% YoY.
The main reason was that the Boshoek and Wonderkop smelters were in a shutdown state.
The company signed a new electricity price agreement with Eskom in June 2026, and Boshoek and Wonderkop resumed production in September 2026 and October 2026, respectively. Production is expected to continue ramping up in Q4 2026.
