[SMM Tin Express: Samsung and SK Hynix Cut NAND Flash Production to Boost Profits]

Published: Jan 20, 2026 11:22
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which together hold over 60% of the global NAND flash market share, are expected to reduce NAND flash production this year. As competition in inference AI, led by NVIDIA, intensifies and the supply of NAND flash—a core component—tightens, prices for servers, PCs, and mobile devices are likely to continue rising. This will significantly boost the operating profit margins of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, similar to the trend seen with DRAM. According to data obtained by the Korean newspaper *Chosun Ilbo* from market research firm Omdia, Samsung Electronics' NAND wafer production this year has been revised downward to 4.68 million wafers from 4.9 million wafers last year. SK Hynix's NAND flash production is also projected to decrease from approximately 1.9 million wafers last year to 1.7 million wafers this year.
