China's Net Alumina Exports Hit 285,600 MT in March, April Volumes Expected to Decline

According to China Customs, China's alumina exports in March 2025 reached 296,700 mt, up 105.9% YoY; alumina imports in March 2025 were 11,200 mt, down 96.3% YoY; the net alumina imports in March were -285,600 mt, down 278.8% YoY.

From January to March 2025, China's cumulative alumina imports were 88,800 mt, down 90.6% YoY; cumulative alumina exports were 701,600 mt, up 66.4% YoY; cumulative net alumina imports were -612,900 mt, down 216.6% YoY.

In February 2025, China's alumina export window briefly opened, leading to the signing of several export contracts, with some shipments delivered in March. Benefiting from this, China's net alumina exports reached 285,600 metric tons in March. However, by late February, the export window gradually closed and has not reopened since. As a result, alumina exports in April are expected to decline.
