According to the statement of the Council of the European Union, ministers have agreed to extend Regulation (EU) 2022/2577 until June 30, 2025, in order to address the energy crisis and reduce the EU's dependency on Russian fossil fuels. The regulation, originally set to be implemented on December 30, 2022, aims to expedite the permitting process and deployment of renewable energy projects, advancing the EU's climate goals. Among the provisions, the regulation allows for the installation of solar panels on rooftops within three months, and stipulates that if the relevant authorities do not respond within one month after the application submission, it can be considered as approval for solar installations with a capacity of up to 50 kW, without the need for an environmental impact assessment.
