For the week ended May 20, U.S. Initial jobless claims rose by 4,000 to 229,000, against expectations of 245,000.
According to data released by the US Department of Labour on Thursday, the US initial jobless claims for the two weeks ending May 13 were revised down by a combined 50,000.
New data suggests the labour market is not as slack as some believe. Total claims remained fairly low, suggesting elastic demand for workers.
