Nyrstar Planned to Shut Down a Lead Smelter in Australia for 55 Days, and LME Lead Rose 8.24% on the Week

This week, LME lead continued to hit new highs since mid-to-late August, with a weekly increase of up to 8.24%.

SHANGHAI, Oct 8 (SMM) - This week, LME lead continued to hit new highs since mid-to-late August, with a weekly increase of up to 8.24%. Earlier this week, European non-ferrous metal giant Nyrstar announced that it would close its lead smelter in Port Pirie, Australia for 55 days, in order to save capital expenditure and improve emissions and operational performance. It is known that Trafigura is one of the major shareholders of Nyrstar, who refused to reveal the exact lead output of Port Pirie smelter. It is reported that the lead output of the smelter stood at 160,000 mt in 2018.
