On August 28, Wu Kai, the chief scientist of CATL, revealed at the World New Energy Vehicle Congress that CATL plans to launch a new generation of battery cells by 2023 - condensed matter battery.
It is noticed that Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, had previously disclosed at the Chongqing Auto Show that in addition to all-solid-state battery, semi-solid-state battery, CATL is also on condensed-matter battery that everyone has never heard of.
Obviously, what Wu said is "the condensed matter battery that everyone has never heard of". It is understood that condensed matter battery is featured with high safety, high reliability, and prominent cycle life.
Industry experts said that the core of condensed matter battery is to achieve superfluidity, superconductivity, stability, and superior conductivity. Simply put, the battery is more stable with larger capacity and faster conduction efficiency. An important material for realising condensed matter battery is graphene, which won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
At present, the condensed matter battery may also be categorised as a kind of semi-solid state battery. It is with condensed state electrolyte with liquid components in it, which does not flow but is with strong adhesion. The semi-solid battery is a transitional route in the development process from traditional liquid lithium-ion batteries to solid-state batteries, and it is also necessary.
In addition, CATL will adopt NP2.0 technology next year, which is the second-generation battery safety technology of the company, with the technical characteristics of active isolation and downward pressure relief.
NP2.0 technology + condensed matter battery is likely to be a promising solution to spontaneous combustion of electric vehicles!
