SHANGHAI, Aug 23 (SMM) - According to the customs data, in July 2022, China exported 906,000 mt of coke, down 2.4% from the previous month, but up 132.2% from the same period last year, and the exports totalled 5.03 million mt from January to July.

The import volume was 19,000 mt, down 83.1% YoY, and the imports totalled 265,000 mt from January to July.
In July, domestic coke was mainly exported to Brazil, Japan, Turkey, Italy, India, Indonesia and Vietnam, with an export volume of 690,000 mt, accounting for 76.2% of the total. Among them, 178,000 mt were exported to Brazil, accounting for 20% of the total, and 147,000 mt were exported to Japan, accounting for 16% of the total.

China's main coke importer was Japan, with an import volume of 19,000 mt, accounting for 99% of the total volume.
After two rounds of coke price increases in China, profits of domestic coke trading rose, narrowing its spread with the export profits.  Besides, the demand in China is growing with the production resumption of domestic smelters. And some traders choose to ship their goods to China to ensure their stable cash flow. Approaching the peak season of September and October, domestic demand for coke will probably continue to increase. In the case of a small spread of profits between exports and domestic trading, more traders will ship to the domestic markets, so the exports of coke in August will decrease further.
