High-carbon Ferrochrome Prices Fell amid Higher Output and End of Power Rationing

SHANGHAI, Nov 22 (SMM) – The prices of high-carbon ferrochrome have been declining last week. The operating rates of high-carbon ferrochrome manufacturers have risen significantly, and the power rationing has eased in various regions, pushing up the output of ferrochrome sharply.

Ferrochrome plants increased the output for the outstanding long-term contracts, which failed to be performed due to the power rationing in the previous period. The spot cargoes sold in the market increased, and the supply of high-carbon ferrochrome turned from tightness into sufficiency.

The coke shortages have eased as the production restrictions at plain carbon steel mills in Hebei intensified recently, lowering the coke prices. Meanwhile, the prices of South African Cr 40-42% chrome concentrate have also fallen slightly recently. The production cost of high-carbon ferrochrome has fallen, and the quotations by the manufacturers have continued to fall.
