Zhanjiang Port launched China's first bonded processing and re-export business of iron ore from different countries

SHANGHAI, Jul 6 (SMM) — A few days ago, the foreign trade re-export vessel "Yazhou" docked at No. 602 berth of bulk cargo terminal, Xiashan Port Area, Zhanjiang Port, successfully completed the shipment of 77,000 mt of bonded iron ore and departed from Zhanjiang Port. This has made Zhanjiang Port the first port in China to engage in bonded simple processing and re-export business of iron ore from different countries. It is also an important measure of Zhanjiang Port Group to actively cooperate with customs.

With the rapid development of Vale's iron ore bonded simple processing business, Zhanjiang Port has attracted the attention of Rio Tinto due to its excellent port environment and launched simple iron ore processing business. Zhanjiang Port Group took the initiative to work with Rio Tinto in investigating market demand and quickly opened up southern markets such as South China and the Yangtze River Basin. In order to meet demand from the Southeast Asian steel industry, Zhanjiang Port and Rio Tinto cooperated in promoting the simple processing and re-export business of iron ore, which is unlike the general simple processing trade. This business model is undertaken in the bonded status and uses iron ore of different countries, origin and tax number for simple processing, shipment and re-export, the first such business in China.

At present, Zhanjiang Port is relying on 400,000-mt-class bulk cargo terminal, iron ore water transit and railway transport to further enrich the supply chain of iron ore bonded operation, blending, screening and trade and strive to build bulk cargo distribution centre in south China.
