It is reported that Brazil's Vale (Vale) has suspended the activities of its Timbopeba iron ore mine, which is expected to result in a loss of iron ore capacity of about 33000 tons per day.

Vale said it suspended operations because of the suspension of its Estrada de Ferro Vitoria Minas (EFVM) railway on the Fabrica Nova section. Local labor authorities ordered a moratorium on mining activities near the Xingu dam in the Alegria mine. As a result, Vale will not be able to transport iron ore produced by its Timbopeba mine.

Vale said internal access to the Alegria mine had also been blocked, which would affect another 7500 tonnes per day of iron ore production. Vale did not provide a timetable for when to resume railway operations and restart Timbopeba iron ore activities. Vale said it was working to resume business "as soon as possible".
