Development of 900 MPA ultra-high strength hot rolled steel for automobile structure in Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.

On May 10, Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. and Beijing Iron and Steel Research Institute joined forces to successfully trial-produce 900 to 1000 MPA ultra-high strength hot rolled automobile structural steel in Xichang Steel.

It is reported that high-strength steel plate plays an extremely important role in reducing vehicle weight, reducing fuel consumption, improving the strength of automobile components and ensuring safety performance. In order to reduce the vehicle weight, the demand for high-strength steel plate for automobile beam is increasing, and the iron and steel enterprises are constantly developing new hot-rolled steel plate for automobile beam. At present, the mainstream hot-rolled automobile structural steel in the market is switching from 600 MPA to 700 MPA, while Panzhihua Iron and Steel is the first to realize the batch supply of 750-850 MPA grade hot-rolled automotive structural steel. However, the market demand is endless, and some users have a higher demand for lightweight. Therefore, it is urgent to develop 900 MPA grade hot-rolled automobile structural steel. At present, most of the 900 ~ 1000 MPA ultra-high strength steels in the market are heat treated steels with high cost.

Combined with the characteristics of its own resources, Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has put forward the V-Ti-Mo composite microalloying technology which accords with the traditional production process, and the hot rolling technology represented by nano-scale precipitation phase control technology, ultra-fine grain steel microstructure uniformity control technology and ultra-high strength hot rolled steel strength matching technology. The super beam steel products with average tensile strength up to 970mpa, elongation and excellent cold bending properties have been successfully developed. It broadens the strength range of high strength automobile structure steel used in Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., and meets the needs of users with high strength, high toughness and plasticity.
