In terms of crude oil, international oil prices rose slightly on Thursday, driven by late buying. The oil market ended the week with quiet trading. On precious metals, COMEX gold futures closed slightly higher in quiet trading ahead of the Christmas holiday on Thursday, as investors remained optimistic about the US stimulus package, but gold prices fell for the first time in nearly a month. Before this week, futures rose for three consecutive weeks on expectations that the US stimulus package would be passed and the spread of novel coronavirus around the world accelerated.

On the data side, the Bloomberg Consumer confidence Index for the week ending December 20 in the United States, with a previous value of 48.4, is expected to release 47.

In the United States, the annual rate of ECRI's leading indicator for the week to December 18, with a previous value of 13.1%, is expected to be 14.5%.
