SMM News: November 4, the third China International Import Expo in Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center grand opening. During this period, Hyundai officially announced the Chinese name of its electric vehicle exclusive brand IONIQ at the Expo, and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with partners in China's hydrogen energy demonstration zone.
IONIQ is named "Ernie Krypton", and the first model will be released early next year.
In August this year, Hyundai announced that it would officially upgrade its IONIQ model to an independent pure electric sub-brand. At this press conference, Hyundai officially announced its new electric car brand IONIQ called "Ernie Krypton" in Chinese. According to the relevant official of Hyundai Automobile, three models are currently planned by Eni Krypton, and its first model will be officially released early next year.
According to previous news, the independence of Eni Krypton is mainly to help Hyundai complete the development strategic plan of "one of the three major manufacturers of electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the world" in 2025. The main goal of the strategy is that Hyundai Group will sell 1 million electric vehicles a year in 2025 and strive for 10% of the global electric vehicle market share. To achieve this goal, Hyundai, Kia, Genisek and Agni Krypton will launch 44 electric models worldwide by 2025, including 13 hybrid models, 6 plug-in hybrid models, 23 all-electric models and 2 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
At the product level, the IONIQ Ernie Krypton brand will complete the launch of three models in the next four years, namely IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 7. Among them, the IONIQ 5, which is positioned as a medium-sized SUV, is based on the Hyundai 45 concept car and will be released in early 2021; the IONIQ 6, which is based on the Hyundai Prophecy concept car, will be launched in 2022; and the IONIQ 7, which locates the large SUV, will be launched in early 2024.
As the prototype concept car of the IONIQ 6 model in the new car plan of the IONIQ brand, the Prophecy concept car will be unveiled to the Chinese public during this Expo. IONIQ 6 will apply the new electric vehicle exclusive modular production platform EmurGMP, which can be quickly charged in 20 minutes, greatly improving the efficiency of users. At the same time, the exclusive platform for electric vehicles is committed to realizing the modern concept of intelligent living space, that is, with highly adjustable seats, wireless connections and other unique functions.
According to previous foreign media information, the IONIQ 5 will be equipped with SKI power batteries with 58kWh and 73kWh battery capacity and mileage of 354km and 450km respectively (the test conditions have not been announced). In terms of charging, the car will be adapted to the 350kW super-charging pile, and it will take only 15 minutes for the battery to be recharged from 20% to 80%.
Speed up the layout of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in China, and NEXO will be introduced into China next year.
In recent years, the popularity of hydrogen fuel cell technology is high, from national to local, from upstream parts enterprises to downstream vehicle enterprises will increase their investment in this field. Hyundai Automobile, which is committed to the research and development and promotion of hydrogen fuel cell, is currently accelerating the signing of strategic cooperation agreements with partners in China's Yangtze River Delta and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei hydrogen energy demonstration zone to jointly build a hydrogen energy industry ecosystem.
Among them, in the Yangtze River Delta region, Hyundai Motor, on October 27 this year, signed a "Memorandum of understanding on the Construction of hydrogen fuel Cell vehicle platform in the Yangtze River Delta" with Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd., Shanghai Shunhua New Energy system Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Ronghe Electric Power Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., using Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicle as the medium. The four links of hydrogen fuel production and supply, hydrogenation infrastructure construction, hydrogen fuel cell vehicle supply and vehicle operation (finance) are organically integrated to further promote the demonstration operation business of hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles.
In the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Hyundai signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle platform in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region with China Steel Research Technology Group Co., Ltd. and Hegang Group Co., Ltd. on November 4. According to the agreement, Sinosteel Research is mainly responsible for providing hydrogen energy storage, transportation and charging technology, and providing support for the construction of hydrogen filling stations; Hegang Group mainly uses by-product hydrogen resources to ensure hydrogen energy supply, and will become the actual demand side of hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks; Hyundai Automobile is mainly responsible for developing and promoting hydrogen fuel cell trucks that meet the needs of the local market.
Through this hydrogen fuel cell technology strategic cooperation, it is estimated that by 2025, Hyundai Automobile and cooperative enterprises will popularize 3000 hydrogen fuel cell trucks in the Yangtze River Delta and 1000 hydrogen fuel cell trucks in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
At the product level, Hyundai displayed the world's first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck XCIENT Fuel Cell, hydrogen fuel concept truck NEPTUNE model, and the new generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicle NEXO and other products at the exhibition site.
Among them, the hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck XCIENT Fuel Cell is equipped with a 190kW fuel cell system, and the maximum output of the vehicle reaches 350kW (476ps/228kgf m), hydrogenation time is only 8-20 minutes. In July this year, Hyundai Motor has exported XCIENT Fuel Cell, to Switzerland for use in demand areas such as supermarkets and integrated circulation supply chains at gas stations.
NEXO sold a total of 4987 units in 2019 and has sold more than 10, 000 units since 2020.
In the field of passenger cars, NEXO can achieve rapid hydrogenation in 5 minutes and obtain an ultra-long range of 800km according to the NEDC standard. According to data, NEXO ranked first in global hydrogen fuel passenger car sales in 2019, and the cumulative sales have exceeded 10, 000 units since 2020.
Drawing on the successful experience in the global market, Hyundai Kia began to accelerate the layout of the Chinese market. Li Hongpeng, chief commercial officer of Hyundai Motor Group (China), mentioned in his speech at the scene that from 2021, Hyundai will import NEXO hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to the Chinese market and conduct commercial trial operation in pilot cities; in 2022, the domestic launch of hydrogen fuel cell medium trucks, followed by the gradual launch of hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks, will continue to expand its influence in the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle market.
Facing the increasingly fierce market competition in the future, Li Hongpeng, chief commercial officer of Hyundai Motor Group (China), mentioned, "the Chinese market is the largest and most potential automobile market in the world, and it is also the most important strategic market for Hyundai Kia. In the face of the brand-new market environment, Hyundai Motor Group will rely on global technical strength and brand influence to promote the high-quality development of China's business and achieve the overall promotion of brand value in the midst of changes and opportunities.
